Tuesday, February 25, at Shorter University from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, students participated in the S.I.D.E. program (Sheriff’s Impaired Driving Experience). Deputy Jimmy Allred with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department and Floyd Against Drugs, along with Shorter University Health Services, participated in the alcohol and drug awareness event. Students wore goggles to simulate the effects of being under the influence of alcohol and/or marijuana while attempting to complete tasks such as heel to toe, weaving in and out of a cone course, catching a beach ball, and ring toss. The goggles were worn to show how difficult the tasks were while simulating intoxication. These were some of the goggles that were previously purchased by FAD and given to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.
